Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering IEEE Conference

November 2023

On November 13th, Iceberg ASV volunteered at the Newfoundland Electrical and Computer Engineering Conference hosted by IEEE. Team members Grace Pearcey and Michael Mccarthy gave a technical presentation on this year’s ASV and spoke specifically about our autonomy processes and competition approach. At the conference, the team was also able to network and learn about more software tools and path planning techniques to help with any future software development. This experience was incredibly valuable, we are delighted to share our work, and to expand our knowledge on current R&D and expertise happening within Canada! Thank you to Dr. Oscar De Silva for inviting us to particupate in this incredible opportunity.

Robogals MUN Engineering Workshop - SHAD Canada

July 2023

In July 2023, the Iceberg ASV team collaborated with Robogals MUN Chapter to organize a workshop for this year’s SHAD MUN program. SHAD is a science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program with a focus on entrepreneurship for grade ten and eleven students. The workshop aimed to promote the Ocean Naval Architectural Engineering program at Memorial University. It creates a safe, inclusive environment for high school students to learn about maritime technology both in Newfoundland and Labrador, and on a global scale. Students participating in the workshop had a hands-on opportunity to experience various ocean-naval related labs, learned about research opportunities at Memorial University and got to speak with Iceberg ASV members about their experiences as an engineering design team.

It was a rewarding experience to speak with this year's SHAD participants and to hear about their ideas, experiences, and goals as future leaders and entrepreneurs. We hope to see these students at Memorial University in the future, running their own design teams one day! Thank you to Robogals MUN for collaborating with us to make this workshop a success, we hope to continue our outreach work to inspire the next generation!
